Super high prices for the level of food they offer! The service leaves a lot to be desired since there are few waiters and the place is still the same as it was 20 years ago. They want to become millionaires with noodles in watery sauce and a tough Milanese.
I returned to the Balcarce Dining Hall (the beloved "vomito," as we called it when we were kids) with the idea of reliving memories. It's the place I've been the most in my life. My dad brought me there since I was 8, and he'd been coming back since he was 20 to study. Back then, the current owner's mother would serve you soup without you even asking. They even gave us a glass of wine once, for an anniversary.Today, for the first time in 17 years, I got up and left a restaurant. The stuffed supreme with grills—the dish of my life—is $28,000. Absolutely insane. And it's not that it isn't delicious—it is—but there's no way to justify that price. My old man, who has known this place since the first generation existed, told me without hesitation: "Get out. This isn't what it used to be."I don't know what happened. They've gotten carried away on social media, they want to maintain viral fame, but they've forgotten the most important thing: the essence. This was a soulful tavern, with hearty food, good service, and reasonable prices. Today it's something else. Very different.A hug to heaven for Ángel, the best waiter that place ever had.
There isn't a great deal of variety. My mom got a ball of dubious origin in her food.
I returned to Balcarce (Vomito, for us older people) with the hopes of a long-awaited reunion, since I hadn't been there in a while. I left disappointed. The waiter's service was EXCELLENT AS ALWAYS. A lovely atmosphere, AS ALWAYS!!! What happened to you guys with the food and the prices? ¡?¡?¡?¡?¡ A complete Milanese was $28,000 (with potatoes and two fried eggs). At that price, I thought it was worth sharing; it was TINY!!!! Where did that stainless steel tray go? Don't forget your essence, dear Balcarce family. Don't buy into the trend, because trends pass, and the kids then go to other places. Recover the tradition of good food, dishes you can't finish, and dive-bar prices. Last week I spent the same amount at Bar de la Guitarra on Oroño for two plates.
Terrible wine list. Terrible wait time between ordering dishes and being served. There were no squid, no salty meat empanadas, no Cabernet wine. Choosing the doneness of the meat? Only for the insistent, supreme level. Roast beef with potatoes? With chimichurri!!! It's garlic with meat and potatoes from 4 days ago. And 1.30 hours for each item. I arrived at 9:30 p.m., it's 11:30 p.m. I'm waiting for the sirloin with potatoes.
The dish of hake with mashed potatoes left a lot to be desired, the mashed potatoes were cold. We asked the waiter if he could please heat it up and he didn't like it very much. Then when he brought it, it was lukewarm and he said in a submissive way, "Now it must be hot because it's smoking." But it wasn't. We also ordered cannelloni and they were delicious and abundant.
Exquisite food from a tavern, abundant dishes, good prices, very good service.
An old neighborhood restaurant. The food is adequate but not great. This time we ordered chicken Roquefort with grilled potatoes, which came with French fries, and they didn't even mention it. It's always packed because it's an old and famous restaurant, but I don't recommend it highly enough.
