Some of the best drinks of the trip were had at Contramar… and we went to several of the “World’s Best Bars” - cocktails here are 🔥! Awesome service, attention to detail, freshness and price point. Tuna Tostada and the (hilarious to admit this) BEANS! were the stars of the show. But all fish was as fresh and flavorful as can be. The split seasoning whole fish was awesome. Can’t wait to come back and try everything else 🤤 Since we booked our trip a month out, I set an alert on Open Table for a rez and booked it as soon as a notification popped up. I am so grateful to have had the Contramar experience. You can tell that the staff loves what they do, and that reflects in the food.
Very very tasty 😍
The food was delicious. Excellent service from Ivan. Highly recommended.
This restaurant is expensive and busy for a good reason! I had the best shrimp dish ever!! It was called shrimp in garlic oil - the shrimp was giant and cooked to perfection!! Their famous fish dish was also very, very good and makes excellent fish tacos!
Definitely overhyped. Food was exceedingly average. And to make a mediocre experience worse, our server was not honest and upfront. We ordered fish tacos and tuna tostadas as our appetizers. For the tuna tostadas, he said it comes with 4 pieces, so since we’re just 2 people, he can change 2 of the pieces to scallop tostadas. We thought he was being really nice and said sure. For the fish tacos, same thing, he said it comes with 4 pieces, and said he could change 2 of the 4 pieces to soft shell crab tacos. Again we said sure. Only when we got the bill we realized the 2 soft shell crab tacos were MX850 vs MX145 for 2 fish tacos. And scallop tostadas were also double the price of the tuna ones. Gotta admit the guy knows how to run a hustle and rack up the bill. But it soured what was already a pretty bland and basic experience. We actually didn’t even finish our soft shell crab tacos because they were so bland lol. Much better places to go in Mexico City! One of our favorite upscale places was Carmela y Sal - delicious, inventive and great service!
Contramar is absolutely worth the hype. We loved everything we ordered—especially the tuna tostada and the whole fish, which we almost skipped but ended up being the star of the meal. The ceviche was fresh and flavorful, and the desserts were outstanding. The place was packed, but the kitchen moved quickly and everything came out fast. Our server was incredible—she’s the only female server at Contramar, which surprised me coming from the U.S., where it’s common to see more gender balance in restaurants. She was cool, attentive, and gave us excellent service. I wish I remembered her name, but we’re so glad we got to meet her.
IT WAS AMAZING!!! If you happen to be in CDMX please make time to stop by. I would suggest making a reservation about a month out, you’ll be glad you did cause it gets packed!! We had the tuna tostadas and the fish fillet. It was sooo good. Highly Recommend!!
The best seafood place I've ever had. The grilled octopus is delicious 😋
