Iemanjá Restaurant—one of Salvador's oldest seafood restaurants—is no longer what it once was. The customer can't see what's being served in the bowl, as what comes is submerged in broth (a lagoon), as shown in the restaurant's own advertising photos. After much searching, one manages to hook a piece of fish and/or shrimp. It's not a beautiful piece of fish (but rather the tail, with bones, which resemble bones), and the shrimp are very small. The distinctive dish no longer has the same quality as before. Like most restaurants, the prices are extortionate (as someone has rightly noted before). The place is pleasant, and the waiters are good. I don't intend to go back, as there are restaurants more committed to quality.
I liked the food, the atmosphere, the service, and the wait time! I recommend it.
We ordered a portion of acarajé as an appetizer, which was quite quick. However, the dumplings arrived lukewarm, dark, lacking crunch, and drenched in oil—i.e., reheated. The vatapa was okay, but the shrimp in the acarajé tasted stale. The shrimp and crab moqueca was okay, the seasoning was good, but there was too much palm oil. The shrimp were small and rubbery, and the crab melted into the sauce. The pirão (a type of pirão) was flavorless.
It lacked seasoning..... As for quantity, generous portions.
The best food I found in Salvador. I had shrimp in a pumpkin, wonderful!! Delicious codfish fritters and orange juice.Everything was delicious, light, and perfect. Marcos served us very well, even though we arrived in the last half hour of business. Everything arrived quickly.
