I came by and it was closed, please change your opening hours :)
This restaurant exceeded all our expectations. Although it didn't look very promising from the outside, the food tasted great. The waitress was very attentive and did everything she could to make us happy. Previously this was a family restaurant, but now it is run by a Canadian. Definitely recommended! We will certainly return on our next visit to Merida!
First, the staff and the owner were great, very nice and attentive. We only ate here once and on this night, it seemed to only be frequented by Canadians and a few Americans. I kind of view this restaurant as a place where Canadians/Americans go to eat comfort food from their own culture. The food itself was okay, not terrible but not amazing either. The drinks seemed small and were overpriced compared to what we have received at other places in Merida. The food bill was also more inline with what we would pay in the USA and this was the most expensive bill we paid in our 2 weeks in Merida and Oaxaca. We liked the ambiance of the restaurant and we left with a full stomach but we wouldn't go back given the better values we found at other restaurants.
We thought we'd treat ourselves to a good restaurant on our long trip. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed. None of the four dishes really tasted that good. The pasta was drowning in the thick, creamy, yet quite spicy sauce. The fish from the "famous fish and chips" was soggy and tasteless inside, and the fries weren't even homemade. I wouldn't order the wine again either. But that's certainly a matter of taste. I found it too "fizzy" (benzene-like) for me. Unfortunately, we probably got food poisoning or salmonella from the mussels. They had a strange consistency and a sauce that tasted like cheap, ready-made tomato sauce. I thought it was meant to be, so I ate them anyway. Given the prices and resources, I guess I'm too old-school. In any case, we've had terrible stomach cramps and nasty diarrhea and nausea ever since.Only two of us ate the mussels; the others have no symptoms. Maybe you can rely on simple dishes there. Many people ate the steak. I think the people there are nice. I found the waitress very nice. But she told me there was nothing spicy in the sauce (Pasta Diavola... the devil is in the name, after all). Maybe not for Mexican palates, but I could have breathed fire after a few forks. I generally find it difficult to evaluate Italian cuisine abroad, but in that price range and as an expat-run restaurant, I found it disappointing. The mussel sauce, as well as the pasta sauce, didn't come close to living up to expectations. And nobody can do anything about the spoiled mussels; that certainly just happens occasionally, but it's certainly a memory. I hope you're not offended, but can make use of the feedback, and I wish you all the best!
We went for the first time since the new ownership took over. Food has vastly improved. And I'm thrilled with the new enclosure for air conditioning. We will be coming more often.
Outstanding service and great meal!
I love the pork shank I ordered! Highly recommended!
10/10This was the best restaurant of our trip by far.The service was excellent: the staff was friendly and helpful, and the menu was conveniently in both English and Spanish. The food was outstanding: we got the fried wontons as an appetizer, and they were perfectly crispy, with the honey wasabi mayo as an unexpectedly perfect pairing. I think we both could have filled up on those alone. I got the salmon as my main course and the Thai curry sauce was the perfect blend of flavors, it was the exact right level of spicy for me where I could feel the kick but it wasn't overwhelming. The mashed potatoes were smooth and delicious as well. My boyfriend got the steak, which although I did not try, looked amazing and my boyfriend loved. For dessert, I had the homemade chocolate tarte. It was smooth and creamy and refreshing after the meal. In addition to tasting fantastic, everything was presented beautifully as well.We would highly recommend visiting this restaurant on your next trip to Merida.
