The service was excellent and the food delicious. We ordered esquites as a starter and they were delicious, as was the ceviche. The shrimp fettuccine is prepared with Xtabetun cream, but it was very light in flavor and unfortunately didn't taste as strong as the liquor.
Our experience at Carmela y Sal was generally very good. The menu is divided into creatively named sections such as prelude, interlude, climax, and outro, which makes the gastronomic tour interesting from the start. For the prelude, we tried the jicama salad, a fresh and light offering, with a different and pleasing presentation for this traditional tuber. Ideal for opening the appetite without filling you up.For the interlude, the octopus tostadas were colorful and well-served. While tasty, they didn't offer anything new; a decent dish but without surprises. For the climax, we ordered the chicken breast with dry noodles and the cannelloni stuffed with cochinita. The former is a generous, very filling dish, with good flavor, although somewhat conventional. In contrast, the cannelloni were a pleasant surprise: an original and very tasty combination, especially given the quality of the cochinita. We also tried the pink mole, a sweet and characterful interpretation. At first, it was very enjoyable, although toward the end, the dominant hibiscus flavor became a bit repetitive. On the other hand, the coconut delicacy was, without a doubt, the highlight of the day. A perfectly balanced dessert, delicious and not at all cloying. We would return for that dessert alone. In short, Carmela y Sal offers a mixed experience: good ingredients, generous portions, and some memorable moments, although with room for a little more innovation in certain dishes. Still, it's worth a visit.
